Treatment
Underwent second vitrectomy, 9/10/07, on the same eye within 2 months. The first surgeon's technique was heavy-handed, leaving my face badly bruised and swollen. Some macular hole debris had either been left or had reformed, keeping the bubble from seating properly. My second surgeon, from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, [rated #1 in the country], was amazing. Her technique was extremely professional. It didn't even appear that I'd had surgery! Dr. Luma Al-Attar, Miami based, was and is my angel. She has shown patient concern and sensitivity.

Prognosis or Current State of Vision
Still recovering--I show 20/20 in that eye!

Family History
No eye problems requiring surgery.

Impact on My Life
The first surgery outcome was devastating. My Dr. had a poor bedside manner, was rather flip in telling me of surgery failure. I'm an artist and photographer and certainly need fairly good vision. I anticipate that my ultimate outcome will be great. At the first week visit, I was reading every line on the chart, which amazed everyone.

Positive Effects
More appreciative of the world around me.

Adaptations
Still looking over the "fishbowl" in my eye. Slowly going down. I feel cross-eyed at times. Some eye strain.

Employment
Not working. Enter art and photography exhibitions locally at the von Liebig Art Center in Naples.

More About Me
Married 35 years, very fit and a young 60. I get taken for my thirty-two year old daughter's sister. I enjoy ballet exercises, working out for an hour every day. I love to paint watercolors and acrylics--mostly wetland birds: egrets, herons, ibis. I do macro photography of flowers, etc. Recently showed a photograph, "Palmetto Fantasy" in the "Through The Lens" show at von Liebig. Love to read mysteries and write short stories and romantic poetry.
