Myopic MD - never formally diagnosed but likely

Both

Eye Color
Blue

Age at Diagnosis
36 for left, 39 for right

Visual Acuity
20/200 left, 20/20 right

Treatment
None

Prognosis or Current State of Vision
Prognosis is unknown, but will likely get worse. No central vision in left eye, though lately it's gotten a bit better. Lacquer crack in blind spot of right eye, so distorted/missing vision there.

Family History
No history of MD any type. Sister and niece have poor vision, but no other problems. My eyes are -13.25 left, -12.00 right. My parents only wore glasses in their 40's.

Impact on My Life
Frightening and depressing. I am not dealing with this well at all, although I'm thankful that it's not worse. I still have my job, but would likely go on disability if my right eye goes.

Positive Effects
Not sure exactly.

Adaptations
Bigger font on computers, more focused task lighting, still okay to drive. I have to be careful on steps and uneven surfaces, as my depth perception is wonky.

Working
Employed full time as a sales rep and on computers all day long. My company has full disability benefits, for which I am very glad.

More About Me

I am married with two boys, ages 9 and 5 1/2. My husband and the two boys all have perfect vision, for which I am eternally thankful. I was wearing glasses at the age of 3 and likely needed them sooner. I just started wearing glasses full time about a year ago. Before that, I was able to wear contact lenses.

I am very happy to have found this spot and to know that I am not alone. I have noticed that there are more people my age dealing with this than I thought.
