Prognosis or Current State of
Vision
I managed pretty well doing all activities kids my age did. At school I sat in the front row and used the Flipper Panel by Enhanced Vision so I could see what's on the blackboard and got enlarged papers. I graduated from regular high school in scientific field in 2012 when I was eighteen. Then I went to Valentin Haüy higher school for visually impaired and graduated in 2017 as a physiotherapist. I have just bought premises as I want to work in private practice.
Family History
None that we know of. My parents never heard of Stargardt disease or any retinal disease running in their respective family, and it made it hard for them to accept the diagnosis at first.
Impact on My Life
Nothing particular. I have to cope with this until research will find a treatment to repair my degenerated cone cells. I cannot take my drivers licence but I have decided to live in a city and will use public transport.
Positive Effects
None
Adaptations
Low vision equipment. Zoomtext for Internet. Big TV screen, 24" PC monitor, Apple Mac computer, iPhone.
Employment
My own boss as a physiotherapist.
More About Me
I have played rugby for years, I love to go to the beach (my parents live close to the Atlantic) and I love going out with friends and have a good time.
