Prognosis or Current State of
Vision
No prognosis. Doctors hope that deterioration has peaked, but there is no way
to tell yet, as I was just diagnosed March 11, 2003.
Family History
No eye disease known in family.
Impact on My Life
I can't drive. I can't read well. Have trouble seeing television and the blackboard at school. The impact is very devastating.
Positive Effects
I have lots of support from family, friends, teachers and co-workers, as well as
people that just want to help, that I don't even know. I realize it could be
a lot worse for me, and I plan to wait patiently for a cure.
Adaptations
I use magnification for reading, binoculars for distance, and Windows XP has
great handicap acessories to enlarge icons, etc. My teachers give me enlarged
copies of their class notes, so that I don't have to copy off the blackboard.
Working
I currently work for a general store after school and summers. I also work with Benjamin Motorsports in the pit crew for their Busch North and PASS racecar. If you go to www.BenjaminMotorsports.com, you can see me in action.
More About Me
My dream is to go to UTI (Nascar School) after graduating from High School,
however, I am not sure if that is a reality at this point. I am going to check
out the school and then make a decision. I would like to hear from other people with Stargardt's to learn more about my future options and anything helpful hints so that I can function better. You can email me at reynoldsacjc@prexar.com .
