Impact on My Life
Other than driving, I feel like it only slows me down when I let it.

Positive Effects
The help that I received from the state of Iowa and the Department for the Blind were amazing. They are able to help me keep my life very functional. They have helped me with things as simple as a magnifying glass up to and including funding for college.

Adaptations

I use a magnifying glass for reading small print. I also use my magnifier on my computer.

Working

I have a B.A. My major was in Elementary Education, and my minor was Social Science. I am currently a teacher in Iowa. I am able to use magnification to help me through my daily schedule.

More About Me

I have a daughter who is four named McKenna. I have a 1 year old son named Erlin Michael. I love being a mother. I also love my job. I am currently working as a substitute teacher, because it gives me the flexibility that I want as far as spending time with my family. Getting from here to there is turning out to be pretty simple. THe town I live in is small enough I can walk most places. Also, because it is a small town, there are many people who are willing to help me out. I won't say that I don't have my down days, but this disease only can slow you down as much as you let it!
