Prognosis or Current State of Vision
Good, Legally blind right eye, stable. Reduced chance of future loss.

Family History
Myopia, Hyperopia in sisters and brother.

Impact on My Life
Changed, but recovered and improved. Now obtaining MSW degree, and returning to full time employment after years of disability retirement.

Positive Effects
Now officer on Board of Directors with American Council of the Blind-AZ chapter, very active as advocate in community representing civil rights for those with sight loss.

Adaptations

I use computerized adaptive technology, low vision aids, and white cane. My biggest change was in attitude. A disability is what you have, but a person is not disabled unless they give up and stop trying to reach their dreams and goals.

Working

Attending graduate school full time, graduating with honors in Spring 2006 from Arizona State.

More About Me

I'm loving life now. I'm active volunteering, teaching, mentoring, and helping others with vision loss regain their joy and zest for living. I travel extensively, meeting people and talking about inclusion and full participation for those with visual impairments. I am at www.azcb.org/board
